The Dinkelman family, key landowners, introduced electricity and commissioned the Inanda Road. By 1900, the area had only two shops; the nearest school was in Hillcrest by 1910, and medical services were in Pinetown, 18 km away.

In 1959, George Rowles acquired part of Waterfall Farm, later transitioning it into a residential area with a shopping complex.
