South Africa’s top 10 annual review residential estates was released last year by New World Wealth, Few of them being newly developed such as Whale Rock Ridge in Plettenberg Bay and Steyn City in Johannesburg that made the cut. The qualifying criteria features include good security, facilities such as a swimming pool and a gym, shops, playgrounds for children, the quality and design of the houses, scenery and wildlife, and the resale and price growth potential.
10. Arabella
Arabella is one of Cape Town’s most lavish golf estates, boasting scenic views of the Palmiet mountain range. This hotspot for wealthy homeowners is located on the Bot River Lagoon in Kleinmond, about 40 kilometres west of Hermanus.
House prices: R3 million to R15 million
9. Highland Gate
This newly-developed estate, Nestled in the Steenkampsberg mountain range near Dullstroom, features an Ernie Els designed golf course and a wealth of leisure activities including hiking trails, fly fishing, mountain biking and bird watching in an exceptional, peaceful setting.

Atlantic Beach situated in Cape Town between Blouberg and Melkbosstrand, it’s the “hidden gem” of South African golf estates. This is relatively well priced, compared to other estates in the top 10.

Steyn City is the largest estate in the country and offers houses and apartments. This 900-hectare estate is nestled between Fourways and Lanseria in Johannesburg. Although the estate is still in its early development, it currently includes an equestrian centre, a golf course and more than 250 hectares of landscaped parkland. There are plans to add two private schools, a retirement village, offices and a private hospital.

Fancourt is South Africa’s top estate for golfers, featuring three highly-rated courses on one estate. Located in George on the Garden Route. The Montagu and the Outeniqua are the two original courses and were constructed in the early 90s, whilst the world-renowned Fancourt Links was added in 2000. Fancourt has various residential areas including Links Avenue, Links Ridge, Cape Dutch Village, Montagu and Oakland’s Village.

Zimbali is located 45 km north of Durban, next to Ballito. One of the estate’s most impressive attributes is the bird life, it is home to several types of bee-eaters, kingfishers and even Africa’s largest eagle, the rare Crowned Eagle. According to Consumer News and Business Channel(CNBC) Africa, This is possibly South Africa’s most scenic estate.

1. Val de Vie
Val de Vie came out as the top estate for 2017. This beautiful estate which recently came together with Pearl Valley (2016 top ranker) is located in Paarl in the Western Cape. A top-rated golf course, natural scenery, lakes and mountain backdrops, vineyards, a horse riding centre and polo fields are the highlights of the combined estate.
